*New* Emily Carr University Login Information
by Grant Gregson - Monday, 14 May 2012, 05:26 PM

Emily Carr University has now implemented CAS (Central Authentication Service) for many of its main applications.

  • Moodle
  • Wordpress
  • Drupal (our main website - http://www.ecuad.ca/)
  • Mediawiki
  • Google Apps (Calendar)
  • Webmail/Horde

This means that when you attempt to login to any of these Emily Carr applications, with your ECU username and password, you will be directed to a central authentication area, to login. Once logged in - to say Moodle, if you wish to go to another Emily Carr application, you will not need to login again. An example would be, if you logged into your Moodle course, you would not need to login again to edit your student profile on the main Emily Carr website. To login to Moodle, please click on the top right hand login link on this web page. If you were given a link by your instructor to your course with a password, please login first, then copy and paste the link in the browser navigation area. You will then be directed to a web page, where you will type in the password to enter your course.

Faculty Tip: Messaging to Students
by Grant Gregson - Friday, 27 January 2012, 11:38 AM

You can send messages to students by using the Participants block or adding the Messages block to your Moodle course. Find out more by visiting - http://docs.moodle.org/22/en/Using_Messaging

The other solution for mass emailing and adding attachments to messages, is to do the following.

Communicating News to Students

1. To send a mass email to your students, you will need to post a new topic to the News forum. This can be done under the "Home" block on the home page and selecting "My courses", then the "Course name" (what course you want an email sent to).

2. At the top of the page, select the "News forum" button.

3. You can create a new message by clicking the “Add a new topic” button above the summary of past posts.

4. From there you will be able to enter the subject and write the message that students will receive via email.

5. You also have the option to attach a document up to 300 MB in size. This can be done by clicking "add" after the Attachment field.

6. By default, the News forum waits 30 minutes before it sends the email to class participants. This gives you time to go back and edit the message before the final version is sent. If you want to send the message immediately, check the “Mail now” box at the bottom of the fields.

7. Finally, click the “Post to forum” button at the bottom of the page. Your message will be automatically sent via email to all students in the class.
